Firstly, a massive thank you to the MedTech World team led by Dylan Attard MD, MRCSI, MEnt. for their hard work and hospitality last week at the beautiful setting of the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
💡 One highlight was the Reverse Pitch Session where investors took to the stage to showcase their businesses and what they can offer start-ups. Thanks to Soyoung Park, Diana Saraceni, Joshua Phillips, Sascha Berger, Gautam Kainth, David Kereiakes, Hirak Parikh and Jotthe Kannappan for sharing their thoughts and experience with us, and to Malek Nasr for moderating. As well as considering product/market fit, regulatory pathway clarity, a scalable business model and clinical/testing validation being major considerations for investors, I also took away the fact that a clear, communicable vision and passionate people who can execute the business plan are critical to gaining investment.
🎤 I had the honour of being invited to attend the Women in MedTech Luncheon, hosted by Managing Partner Julie Adrian from FINN Partners. We heard from CEO Umaima Malik Ahmad , CEO Mary McGovern and Julie Adrian about their career journeys and their advice for how to navigate leadership in the Medtech space. The session embraced our ability to be vulnerable; to talk about situations when things haven’t gone as hoped or those moments of self-doubt. I realized that I am not alone and that we are all experiencing similar feelings and situations. And the biggest takeaway for me was the connection and motivation created within those few hours. Incredible!
💫Another highlight for me was the amount of remarkable people I met. The FINN Partners team, Julie Adrian, Jim Smith and Plamena Manolova were endlessly generous. Thank you for hosting every evening! Freelance Journalist Hassan Nada philanthropic work across the globe and his passion for advocating for those in need is truly inspiring. Mihir Patel, Jeyla Sadikova, Ingrid LANSARD, Nela Lukic, Mark Stevens, FHIMSS, Diana van Stijn, MD PhD, Irene Verheijen, MBA, Maria Kristina Bartolo, Zara Liew, Jeffrey Dalli, Diane Bouis, PhD MBA, Anita Ghosh: thank you for all of the wonderful conversations! I have made some lifelong connections and hope to see you all again somewhere in the world very soon.
📣 Finally, we had fantastic feedback about the MaltaHip and stories about loved ones and their experience of hip arthritis and replacement. A 45-year-old father who has opted not to have surgery until later life so he will only need one procedure. A friend who needed surgery at 17 and faces multiple procedures. And feedback from orthopaedic surgeon Mihir Patel who, after seeing our latest prototype, said that he hadn’t been excited about any kind of hip replacement device for 25 years, until now! Listening to these stories and enthusiasm for a hip replacement that will make a real difference is what keeps everyone Garland Surgical Ltd focused to get the MaltaHip to market for patients worldwide.
